The Best of the Bugs

Simple Entomology
For about a year and a half  I've been photographing common insects. The good, the bad and the unloved. Fascinating creatures. I thought I'd post some of the better images I've been able to capture.

I use a Nikon camera with a Macro lens with a combination of incandescent and fluorescent lighting and sometimes a flash to control the color temperature.

No insects are harmed during this process.

Also, I'd like to thank the great people at http://bugguide.net for helping me identify these awesome little creatures.

For my students:
Works in progress. As you can see, I sometimes work on two paintings at once. It's very good practice when you need to focus quickly from one subject to another.

These are miniature painting's. The one on the left is 4" x 6" and the other is approx. 3" x 6".
